Testing Programmatic Exam Pages vs. Keyword Seasonality in Photo Resizing
Project: PhotoResizer
Creating dedicated specification pages for specific government exam portals (e.g. DSSSB) will capture urgent search traffic that generic photo resizer pages cannot rank for.
Built dedicated, static landing pages with pre-configured dimension inputs and strict file size presets tailored to specific government exam guidelines.
Capture targeted search rankings on Bing and Google and increase daily traffic by at least 200 visitors.
Traffic quickly surged from 150 to ~550 daily users driven by Bing rankings for 'DSSSB exam photo resizer'. However, after the exam registration window closed, traffic dropped back to baseline (~180/day), uncovering strong query seasonality.
Niche programmatic pages capture immediate high-intent volume, but must be balanced with evergreen long-tail clusters to prevent severe seasonal revenue and traffic drops.
Data & Impact
Detailed Notes & Context
Background & Rationale
Generic utility keywords like photo resizer have high domain authority competition. To bootstrap traffic on a new domain (photoresizer.in), I hypothesized that users searching for specific exam application requirements (e.g. DSSSB photo size converter) had high urgency and lower competition.
Observations
- Bing Search Indexing: Bing indexed and ranked the programmatic exam pages within 10 days of deployment.
- The Post-Deadline Cliff: Once the exam application deadline passed, daily impressions for that specific cluster dropped by over 75%.
- Strategic Pivot: Shifted from purely event-driven exam pages to recurring evergreen dimensional clusters, which later fueled the September 2026 Google ranking breakout.
